A Year In Perspective
It’s hard to believe that 2021 is nearing to an end, but it will surely be one to remember for years to come.
This year has been a difficult one for many people. Like much of 2020, 2021 saw many people having to persevere like never before, and for this they should be commended.
In conversations with others, this year has been described as challenging, stressful, frustrating and depressing, but some have also described it as a year to slow down and focus on getting healthy.
With uncertainty still looming as we close of the year, it’s this perseverance, adaptability, and resilience to overcome trying times that we hope will continue to be the main focus as we prepare for the new year.
There’s been loss and hardship but there’s also been opportunity. This year we have learnt a great deal and are approaching the new year with a fresh perspective.
Here’s what 2021 taught us.
We can be open to change
In general, unexpected change can make anyone uncomfortable. Most of us have experienced some kind un expected change this year, which may have deeply impact our livelihoods far beyond feelings of discomfort.
There’s so much to be proud of. This year has taught us a vital lesson: we are resourceful and creative people who are more than capable and we can do hard things.
This coming year we challenge you to welcome change, embrace it and identify new ways to succeed or adapt.
Remember to also lean into your community, you don’t have to do this alone.
Seek support from your peers, fellow business owners, industry associations, business mentors and use the power of community and ask for help.
Mindset
On the topic of reflection, perhaps the biggest takeaway from this year is about mindset. While the world outside is scary and uncertain, as individuals we can’t really do anything about it.
Singehandedly you can’t control the behaviour of others any more than you can control the weather.
What you can do, though, is look after yourself. You can choose to practice, to learn abs to grow - spurred on by nothing but your own interests and efforts.
Despite everything you can still make progress – but it all starts with mindset. This coming year, choose to see the positive opportunities around you.
Gratitude, always
For us gratitude reminds us of how special, beautiful, and blessed our lives are even when we are faced with challenging, stressful, and overwhelming situations.
The concept of gratitude was especially important in the midst of a pandemic when the world around us was very unpredictable and sometimes even dangerous.
We were grateful for many things, our healthy and an opportunity to give back to others. Through gratitude, we expressed our love in both our family and friend.
It allowed us to express our appreciation and allowed us to reflect positively on the more ‘smaller’ aspects of life that we usually take for granted.
So, be sure you are stopping to think about what you're grateful for right now as we invite you to start 2022 by putting everything on the table, being grateful and opening yourself up to new possibilities that the new year has to offer.
We wish you all a very prosperous holiday and a happy new year!
