The Terms We Live By
What are the terms of your life?
What are the terms that you have ‘agreed’ to live by, the terms that are influencing how you are living your life every day? And how often are they up for revision?
As we get older, most of us tend to come to a realisation that most of life has been spent on living on other people’s terms — whether it’s the terms we grew up with, or society’s terms, or perhaps the terms of the people we surround ourselves with. It is not very often that we reconsider these terms, or even consider our own terms — the terms that we want.
Lately, however we’re realising more and more that these terms are always up for negotiation, [and if you are reading this now, it might just be time for you to renegotiate your terms as well].
For us, redefining what terms we live by means having purpose and fulfilment in our life, as well as having the freedom and flexibility to do what matters most to us.
It means having the freedom to pursue a healthy balanced lifestyle; travelling and exploring different places and different cultures - both as people and a brand and building strong connections with like minded people.
We often see things that we think we want - things we think we SHOULD want in order to succeed or be successful but more often than not it’s only when we arrive to that successful point, we realise it isn’t what we want and that we’re actually unhappy.
And living on those terms of what it means to succeed based on what others think can sometimes take a long time to realise. We can get sucked in deep and miss the opportunity to live life in our own way.
Let this be a gentle reminder that even if you are not sure what your terms are now, keep working working towards living life on your own terms.
Rudely interrupt and check in on yourself often.
Ask yourself ‘Is this my desire? Am I living life on my terms? Or is this a distraction?’ .
Use every day as an opportunity to try to do what you want to do and to not let yourself be limited by what others might be thinking or doing. It isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it.
