Essential Styling Tips For Fuss-Free Travel

Travelling is already a challenge without having to worry about looking good. Looking good, or at least decent, while traveling is difficult to master. However, it’s surprisingly easy to travel light and look good both on the plane and at your destination. Here are some tips on how to do it right.

Overpacking Is Real — Don’t Over Pack!

The idea of a vacation may be relaxing, but packing for one is not. Like us, you’re either one of two types of people, you pack last minute, meaning you often forget things, or pack things you absolutely don’t need, but you’ve thrown it in “just in case,”, Or you pack as soon as you can, forgetting what you’ve already packed because you did it so long ago, which can often lead to duplicating some items.

Sound familiar? Of course it does.

Make a list and check it thrice… Forget checking it twice, you’ll find that by the third time you check, you’re still finding things in there that you won’t particularly need.

Do Your Homework

A little homework goes a long way when it comes to packing. Does your room come with a hairdryer? If not, make sure the one you’re bringing suits the voltage for your destination – you don’t want to flick it on and trip out the power for the whole hotel!

Consider where you will be going and what you will be doing (for example: lounging around at the beach, sightseeing the city on foot, a dinner date at a fancy restaurant). Decide how many outfits you will need and coordinate an appropriate outfit - including shoes! Try your best to find items that can be worn more than once or in more than one outfit.

Now that you know exactly what you want to bring, make a checklist with everything on it so you can be sure you don't forget anything. Consider packing those easy to mix and match pieces that can transition from day to night and don't take up a lot of space in your suitcase.

Basics are always a good idea because they go with everything. Dresses and tops that you can dress down during the day and up at night are also great to bring along. If you aren't going somewhere warm and sunny, choose just one jacket that matches everything.

Only Bring the Kinds of Shoes You Actually Need

Do you really need more than one pair of heels or sandals? Unless you're going to be away for over a month (or are some serious modest fashion blogger) the answer is likely no. Like you did with your clothes, plan out what kinds of shoes you need for each ensemble. Try your best to only bring one of each kind (sandal, sneaker, heel), or opt for a single pair of great flats that work with everything.

Leave Your Routines At Home

The last thing you want is your favourite lotion exploding all over your clothes or leaving behind your expensive bottle of perfume or foundation at the hotel. Only bring essentials from your routine if needs be – a favourite facial scrub or moisturiser. You can save weight and space by purchasing your non-essential toiletries when you arrive – shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are even sometimes provided by your hotel.

If you need to bring it all, purchase a mini wash bag and your find your items in mini-size bags so they will pass security.

Layers, Layers, Layers

Packing and dressing with layers in mind will keep your travels comfortable and lightweight. With layered outfits packed in your luggage, you’re ready for everything from chilly airplane cabins to walking on the beach at sunset to sightseeing in the hot midday sun.

For example, packing an abayas will make for the perfect outerwear especially since it doubles up as an appropriate outfit to pray in!

Grab a hat or two..

If it is sunny where you’re going, a wide sun hat is the perfect way to shield yourself while also looking très chic. Wear them to the beach, park, the pool, or even on your day of exploring a new city! This modest and stylish accessory also dresses up your outfit in an instant. Hats are also great alternatives for covering your hair if you feel self-conscious about wearing your hijab at your travel destination.
