How To Create A Serene Bedroom
The bedroom is the modern day sanctuary. It’s supposed to be your retreat from the world -- the place where you hide away at the end of the day to rest, relax, and drink in a few moments of peace before drifting off into blissful sleep. Unfortunately, in this hectic, hurried world, peace is often difficult to come by, perhaps even in your own bedroom.
If your goal is to create a peaceful, serene bedroom, it’s important to realise that peacefulness means more than simply the absence of sound. For us peacefulness is the absence of noise, and as you know, noise comes in many forms! Clutter, bad smells and any unorganised mess is certainly noise, but noise is more than simply something you hear. It cam also be unwanted light or a too-bright colour scheme - Sorry mum!
How can I make my bedroom a calming, restful, peaceful place?
The first tip in creating any serene space is deciding on the purpose of the space..
For many people, homes are now required to serve a multitude of purposes – from a haven in which to unwind to an inspiring working environment. With many of working from home, such a space is becoming more and more a necessity. This means that extra effort needs to be put in to curating each room - especially the bedroom. The bedroom is a space in which you will orientate yourself in the morning, as well as the place you let go of everything holding onto you during the day, as such the bedroom should cater to your comfort and taste as much as possible with purpose in mind.
In a space such as a bedroom it’s therefore important to curate a place that is for your creative best – something that gets you into a certain mood or creates a certain feeling – think in terms of colour, lighting and if your into the arts, a favourite art piece that can inspire creativity or induce a sense of relaxation.
Assess the space – and its symmetry by getting a better bed..
Create the ultimate cocoon for sleeping by choosing the perfect bed. It will allow you to plan the bedroom environment around the scale of the bed and its relationship with everything else within the room such as the windows and fixed joinery. From there, look to build up layers of functionality with necessary storage and as mentioned previously - the lighting. Choose colours that are warm and practical. Decorate with elements of decoration that are both calming and personal to you. Take spouses, children and pets into account also, making sure there is enough room for everyone who shares the bed. If you need to, kick the kids and pets out of your bed. While that may sound callous, think how restful and peaceful your bedroom will be once you have reclaimed it.
Add individual touches and incorporate your inspirations..
Highlight some of your favourite trinkets and memories to make your space more unique. Maybe showcase some vases from your travels or keep it simple with a family photo. For us, prints are a great way to instantly transform any space, we have them at home and in the studio. They add character, colour and interest into any space and also represent a small piece of us in some way.
And finally, keep dreaming!
…because there’s no better room than the bedroom to dream big.
